Chapter 16 Blog

The process of attribution is the theory that we explain someone's behavior by crediting either the situation or the person's disposition. The fundamental attribution error is the tendency for observers, when analyzing another's behavior, to underestimate the impact of the situation and to overestimate the impact of personal disposition. Stereotypes are a generalized (sometimes accurate but often overgeneralized) belief about a group of people. Illusory correlations are related to stereotyping because illusory correlation is the expectation of a relationship of any kind to exist when it doesn't and sterotyping is the belief about a group of people. So they are related to each other because they both are making opinions about people that are not true or making opinions about anything that isn't true.

Chapter 13 Blog

My personality I would have to say would be from how my parents raised me as a child. I also think that I am a twin and that I am the oldest of the two of us so I think of the roll as being a role model to my brother and that he has to listen to me because I am the oldest. A lot of people say that I am a lot like my dad because I like to work hard and I am very determined at what I do and my dad is alot like that. The way that this has made my personality the way it is now is because my dad has always told me that i need to work hard at what I want and if you do work hard you will get it. So I believe my personality is very good and it will get me vary far in life because of my dad.

I thought the video with the Japenese wrighting was very interesting and I think that I can relate to it a lot because it talks about how we can find our personality through different pictures that we see and what our opininos may be about those pictures. They also talked about how our individual qualities may show what kind of personality we might have. I think this is very interesting because I have asked people for example what their opinion was on this specific object that I showed them and I could tell what kind of personality they had by liking this object or not because they would go on to say "no I don't like this picture, I like this picture better because it has more colors". So this person may have a colorful or outgoing type of personality.

Chapter 9 Blog

The first thing that I found interesting was overconfidence because a lot of people these days think that they can do things that they cant or they will have a cocky attitude thinking that they know everything and they can do everything perfect. I have been like this before but I don't get to over my head if I don't know how to do something, I will just stay humble.

The second thing that I found very interesting was how people understand intuition. The reason why this is very interesting is because people will always have their opinion on something that has happened in the past. For example, on 9/11 when those airplanes were hijacked and all those people died a lot of people stopped flying and started driving every where because of the terrible thing that happend that day with those airplanes. They didn't want to take the chance of that happening to them.

The last thing that i found interesting was our grammer. I found this pretty cool because everyone needs to communicate in some way to one another and I found it interesting that their are many different launguges in the world that speak differently or they sound different from English but they all mean the same thing or have the same basic principles as English.

Chapter 8 Blog

Memory is very important in who we are as human beings. The reason why it tells us who we are is because some people have better memory than others and in that case it will tell us what type of job may be suitable for us. For example, a person with a very good memory may be come a doctor and a person without a good memory may become a construction worker. The reason why this determines who we are is because are jobs may tell us what level we are at in the world.

If we didn't have memory are life would be like chaos and everyone wouldn't know who was who. Nobody on this Earth would have friends because they wouldn't remember who they met. Their also will be no jobs in the world because nobody would remember what you had to do for that job.

Clive Waring is still a normal person its just that he doesn't remember short term memory. Because of this he will repeat the same things that he did 10 seconds ago so his memory is not very good because he is always living in the past.

I would say I still think memory is just one big thing not divided into parts like short term and long term. But I do understand what short term and long term memory is. I do not see my own memories differently. I see them the same way that I always have. I do trust my own memories because it's what I think and what I remember and no matter what anybody says it is what I remember and that's what I think will be true.

One thing that I found interesting in this chapter was Deja Vu because I have experienced Deja Vu in my life many times. I will sometimes think to myself that I have been in this situation before because I will remember what exactly had happened the last time I was in the same situation.

Chapter 7 Blog

The first thing that I found intersting chapter 7 was how animals or even humans will develope a cognitve map of a certain place. For example when a mouse is in a maze it will get a mental representation of the maze so it can find cheese or any type of food much faster. The mouse will also use its nose but the mental representation of the maze also plays a big part in reaching it's goal.

Another thing that I found very interesting was how mirror neurons work in animals. One way these work is a monkey will grasp, hold, or tear something and these neurons will fire off inside the brain. When these neurons do fire off in the brain the monkey will do the same as what another monley was doing. In other words monkey see monkey do.

The last thing that I found very intersting was the way we take positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. When we take a positive reinforcement our brain will release a desirable stimulus and we will be happy and on the other side if we get a negative reinforcement our brain will release an aversive stimulus and we will be mad or sad. The reason why I found this intersting was because I never new that our brain released a stimulus to make us mad or happy. And they weren't endorphins.

Chapter 6 Blog

The first thing that I found interesting was the parts of the eye and how they work. What I found intersting about them was how the cones in the eye read light and send the images back to the brain and then the brain will comprehend them. The other thing I found cool about the eye was just how it is built and how the eye has many parts and everyone of those parts has to be their to see clearly and work properly.

The second thing that I found interesting was how your eyes will see things in parts and not in a whole. For example when a person is looking at something like a bird we will see the color of the bird, then see its motion, then the form of the bird or outline, and then also we will see the depth of the bird. I found this very fascinating because it is very true. This is the only way we describe things, is how big it was, what color it was, or what did this object do.

The last thing that I found interesting was how are ear adjusts to different pitches or waves of sound. The ear is very complex and I found it interesting that the ear can sense when something is to loud or to quiet. The sound will travel through many organs, bones, and tissue in the ear and all of these objects will act as one to able us to here in our everyday lives.

Illusions Blog Chapter 6

The Illusions i went to were the waterfall, spiral aftereffect, reverse spoke, wagon wheel, sigma motion, flash-lag effect, Enigma, and motion binding.

I learned a lot from these tutorials because all of these illusions will play some sort or trick on you and I would start to see different things that weren't their. The worst ones were all of the illusions that would spin in a circle and I would fall for what you would see that wasn't actually their.

Nothing surprised me about the tutorials because I have done these before and I would fall for them everytime. It is really intersting that no matter how hard you try someway your brain will play a trick on you.

From what I have experienced nothing has changed my mind on how we sense or perceive because these illusions are ment to screw people up and show how people see different things and how your mind will play tricks on you and this hasn't changed what I perceive because these tricks happen to people everyday, for example a mirage.

These experiences can effect me on a day to day bases because one day I will go to school and I will think i saw someone I know so i will double take and it won't be that person or another example would be wanting to go and pick something off the floor that you may have heard drop and it won't be their because you realized that it actually never dropped. These are both two ways that your mind can play tricks on you.

Chapter 5 Blog

The first thing that i found very interesting in this chapter is how the brain matures over time but not a long period of time but right after your born. The human cerebral cortex will double in size over just one year of after he or she is born. The reason why I found this so intersting is because i never thought that the brain developed so quickly right after the child is born, I thought that it took a lot of time for the human brain to developed.

The second thing that I found very interesting was the stranger anxiety syndrome in babies. I found this very interesting because babies may not know a lot about different people but they can sure know who their mom is and who a stranger is by crying or reaching for its mom or dad. I thought this was very cool because they know who their mom is at a very early age.

The last thing I learned was basic trust. I found this intersting because even though your children may say they don't like their mom or dad they will always go back to them for help or advice on something because children will know that their parents will always be their for them no matter what or in any situation that may come up.

Chapter 4 Blog

One thing that i found interesting in this chapter is personal space. What i found intersting was how people in America have a lot more different style of personal space then in other countries. Americans like to have a lot of personal space and no one wants anyone to bother that space where as in different cultures or countries they are much closer. People in other countries will hold hands a lot in public much more than American people and even men will kiss each other while greeting one another and that is just unheard of in America.

Another thing that i found very interesting in this chapter was gender roles. What i learned in this book about this topic is a lot of men will do the outdoor work like mowing the lawn and painting the house where as the women will do the laundry and make the dinners. The reason why I found this interesting is because I see women doing mens work all the time and men doing so called womens work. For example my mom will go outside and rack leaves or mow the lawn where as i will see my dad folding laundry and cleaning the kitchen.

The last thing that i found interesting was how twins will act in their lives because of their parents. I found that if your parents were very organized and keep things clean your kids will do the same. But I for one disagree with that because I am a twin and my parents like to be organized and I also like things to be very clean and organized but my brother on the other hand is a very messy person and keeps things out of order. For example his room is very dirty wth clothes all over and stuff laying on the ground where as for me i keep my room very clean and I make sure everything is picked up.

Chapter 3: Consciousness and the two track mind Blog

A thing that I found very intersting in this chapter was how a humans sleep stage works. I found this interseting because I always thought you would just fall asleep and wake up but I was very surprised that we sleep in stages. Their are 4 different stages of sleep, 1 being the closest to being a wake and 4 is a stage of deep sleep. In between these stages during the night you would have about 4 periods of REM sleep which is where you would be moving around, eyes moving back in forth while shut, your heart rate will increase and you could also sleep walk during this time. I just thought i learned a lot about this little section because i never new we had all these different stages of sleep and we did all of these different things like sleep walking when we don't even know we are doing this. This affects me in a big way because every person goes through this in his or her sleep and every person will have sleep walked in their life time at least once. I also know for a fact that this has already affected me because my mom has watched me sleep walk before.

Some ideas that I found very surprising in this chapter was REM sleep or sleep stages that I talked about up top but I also found a part on night terrors very surprising. The thing that I found surprising was when a person would have one of thses night terrors they would wake up and be breathing very hard and be sacred as if the night terror dream they were having has came true but when that person would fall back asleep and wake in the morning they would never even remember what happened that night. I find this kind of freaky because if I would see my brother freaking out like something bad is happening in real life after a dream I would be scared myself but when I would remind him in the morning about what had happened he would have no clue what I was talking about and I find that very weird and freaky.

About these things I learned about I agree 100% that these things can happen in sleep because I have had been sleep walking before during REM sleep. I also highly agree with night terrors because I have woke up before like something bad has happend but the only thing different about it is I would remember the dream. But I also would agree with people not remembering it because their will be many times I will know I had a dream the night before but not remember exactly what it was about.

Implicit Association Test Blog (Skin Color Test)

These tests tell a lot about the unconscience mind in my opinion beacuse when i was doing these tests i would want to click the one i was supposed to but my finger would do somwthing else. But their was also times when i would think the opposite of what it was supposed to be and I would queston myself. What this tells us about our society and their unconscience thoughts is that we're always qusetioning ourselves to do what we really think is right but their will be times when we will over think it and it will end up being the wrong desicion. I don't think we are very aware of our attitudes because it is the way we are and the way we live so we won't notice them like other people will because it is our way we act on things. Our attitudes affect our actions and behavior everyday because one person could have a negative attitude and be a stick in the mud everyday where as a positive attitude you will have people that see the glass half full. I don't think these tests had changed what my opinion was before i took the test to when i took it after because I will never care what a persons race is and that showed in the test but i also think if i would have perfered a skin color over another because of this test i would highly disagree with it.

3 Things I Learned in Chapter 2 Blog

One thing that I learned in chapter 2 was that our brain uses many different parts to analyze data that we recieve and how it transfers messages. This impacts my life in how we process and recieve information because if we did not have all these different parts of the brain trying to work as one to make messages that we recieve to make sence. If we did not have one of these parts we would not be able to understand things. I always thought that the brain was just one big tissue of a soft slimmy substance that just sits their and is one as a whole.

Another thing that I learned in chapter 2 was what is an Endorphin. An Endorphin makes a person happy. This impacts my like because if I didn't have any Endorphins I would never be happy. I never new that the brain released Endorphins just to make a person happy. I always thought it was just a sence that you get and you just will feel happy.

The last of the three things I learned was how an MRI is used. An MRI is used to show the anatomy of the brain and show if their is anything wrong in your brain. This impacts my life because if we didn't have thses types of machines to detect that their is something wrong going on inside my head I could be dead before you know it. I always have heard of an MRI but I never actually knew what it did and now I do Know. I know how important it is to patients that might have a tumor or cancer in their brain and this can really help to save a persons life if caught or detected early.

The Man With Two Brains Chapter 2 Blog

When i saw the video of the man with two brains i was pretty shocked because who would ever think a man would have to brains. Even though it was a little weird I found it pretty intersting. The tests that this man did were really cool because people with one brain wouldn't ever be able to do the tests he did. I tryed to draw a circle and a square at the same time and I couldn't do it. I probably wouldn't want two brains because I think one brain would always question the other and you would never know what to do or you would never be able to accomplish anything in life. I also really believe that this will not change how people will think in the world, in other words, were not going to go out and try to make everyone have two brains.

Three Door Dilemma Blog

I thought the Three Door Dilemma game was an ok game, it was defenitly not the greatest game but i did find some of it intersting. It told me to Play 20 time but i was pretty sure in the beginning i did't want to play that many times. The game wasn't very difficult but i had enough of it by the time i got to the 20th try. I think the reason why I found it more boring is because of the lack of technology in it because today we are very use to the Playstation's and Xbox's that all other games just seem nothing like it.

Chapter 1 Blog

Research is very important in our lives and if we didn't have it we would not be where we are today. The reason why we are so advanced in technology today is because of the research people in the past had discovered. If those people did not try to make this world more convenient we would be walking everywhere and i don't think any wants to be walking anywhere especially if the weather is very bad. As for our generation we need to keep finding new ways to find research so even more technology is created to make the world even more convenient that it is now.

Research that is relevant to me that i found very intersting on psyblog was "how you control who likes you?" The reson why I found this interesting was because everything that was brought up on this specific topic was very true about human beings. For example, when we know someone likes us we will act very warm towards that person and try to be nice to them and if we know that person does not like us we will act very cold towards that person and not care about them. I can say that this happens to a lot of us if not everyone in some way

One thing that i found interesting was naturalistic observation because it is describing behavior and not explaining it. Don't get me wrong explaining is a very important part but i think that when you describe something to someone by actually seeing it happen is a lot more effective then seeing it on paper.

The second thing that i found interesting was the correlation coefficient which is how one thing predicts the other. I thought this was a very unique way in finding how a person does in school. One way that it can tell you how well you are doing in school for example, is knowing how much aptitude test scores correlate with school success which then tells us how well the scores are predicting your school success.

The final thing that i found very interesting was the use of scatterplots. Scatterplots are used a lot in psychology which i never new. Psychology is very difficult to understand the way it is, well to me anyway, and the use of a scatterplot I thought mad it a lot easier to understand and see figures visually instead of trying to put it all together yourself in the reading and that helps me to understand a lot better.

Prologue Blog

The Prologue was pretty interesting to me. I leaned a lot about how your brain is used and how your brain thinks in everyday life. The neuroscience part of it really interested me the most. For example, how are messages transferred through the body and how is blood chemistry linked with moods and motives. I think psychology effects my like in many different ways. One way it effects my life is one minute I may be really mad at someone and then the next minute I won't be mad anymore. This kind of psychology is the cognitive perspective because this is the study of our anger and how our anger effects our thinking. Two things that I learned that I found interesting were all of psychologies perspectives and the nature-nurture issue. I found the perspectives interesting because I never would have thought their were that many of them, I always thought that psychology just had to do with the neuroscience part of it; I was very wrong. I also found the nature-nurture issue interesting because of how it is so argued over and how people think of this issue.

Who I am Blog

Hi...my name is Connor Olejniczak I am 16 years old and I am from Thorp High School. I love to play sports especially basketball but I also enjoy playing football and running track. I was an all conference player in basketball my freshmen year and i was also a all conference player in football my sophmore year. I really believe i turned out the way that I am becuase of who my parents are. If I didn't have them i defenietly wouldn't be the person who I am today. I think studying psychology is important because people should know how your own mind or brain works. I mean who doesn't want to know how your own body works or why you do the things you do. I think Psychology is the study of the human brain and why the brain decides to do the things it does. I also think Psychology is the characteristics that one individual person develops over their life time.
